Wednesday April 3, 2019. In this week’s Kitchener Waterloo Real Estate News: big news, e-scooters, glovebox, goose watch, mortgage insurance, fast-growing, world map of religions, the office, airbnb…

Red & White

Earlier this week, my Broker sent out a message:

Big News! For the last 3 months I have been negotiating with Remax Twin City to purchase my company. We came to an agreement in principal yesterday and they will be taking over the business in 30 days. Nothing will change except the name. It will now be called Red, White and Blue Realty.

I hadn’t had my morning coffee yet and was slow on the pick up. It scared the heck out of me. It was April Fools.

Electric scooters return to Waterloo Region

Monday marked the start of the second phase of the pilot project which launched last fall.

The scooters, from the California-based company Lime, can be used within a confined route along the Laurel Trail, between Waterloo Park through the David Johnston Research and Technology Park, and Factory Square Campus.

An inside look into Kitchener’s ‘GloveBox’ redevelopment

No stranger to adaptive reuse of buildings, Edge Architects is marrying the old and the new on an ambitious office redevelopment project in downtown Kitchener. The project encompasses restoration of the former, century-old Huck Glove factory, the addition of three storeys on top of the building and construction of an adjacent six-storey addition. The redevelopment will accommodate 145,000 square feet of office and commercial space with ground-floor retail.

Goose Watch 2019

What started years ago as a teaching tool has evolved into a full blown website used by University of Waterloo students. The website records goose nests around the campus, both current and previous, using information from student to create a map.

Mortgage Insurance

You might think you need it. The bank will tell you to get it, but you have other options. The reality of mortgage insurance.

RSS is better than Twitter

As an early adopter of Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, and Reddit, I often feel like I am ahead of the curve when it comes to deleting social media platforms. I arrived early and I’m leaving early. For the record, in my opinion, Reddit is good again, Youtube has never been better, Facebook does not have a bright future and Twitter is toxic and the cause of much of many people’s unhappiness.

But it is through Twitter that many people connect to up-to-the minute news. Where can they go if they delete twitter? This article sums up the benefits to twitter alternatives. I am in full agreement.

We’re #2

KW-Cambridge is the second fastest growing urban area in Canada, second only to Peterborough. See chart.

A visual map of the world’s major religions

Drawing on data from the United Nations Population Fund and from the World Religion Database, this map visualizes the relative populations of each country by sizing them as proportional pie charts, with their major religions represented by different colours. Christianity is still the world’s largest religion, at 32.8%, with Islam close behind at 22.5%.

What is an office for?

My brokerage does not have offices in the typical sense — with filling cabinets, a receptionist and cubicles. What we do have is a couple of spots in the region that we can meet with clients in business setting with private offices, a boardroom, a kitchen, bathrooms and parking. It’s all you need. I haven’t worked in a proper office for many, many years and I could never go back to that life. This article tells the story of the modern office.
