Canada Day Fireworks in Waterloo and Kitchener

Canada day fireworks

The Canada Day Fireworks in Waterloo and now Kitchener too is the first real event kicking off a summer of fun in Waterloo Region. For the past 15 years, (it’s been ongoing for 31) I’ve been going, often with my family, up to Columbia Lake for the big party with the fireworks finale. It seems every year to get bigger and better. As many as 60,000 people attend.

Downshifting into summer
For most people, it is going to be a weird week. It is not often that most people have Wednesday off. I do. I’m a realtor. It is going to be a prefect week for me. If you’ve ever thought you’d like to be a realtor, now is your chance to experience an upside down week. With schools ending last week and a weird week with a holiday in the middle, we are downshifting into summer, ‘bout time. It is going to be great.

Fireworks in Waterloo
Waterloo Region’s biggest and longest running Canada Day Party is held by The University of Waterloo Federation of Students at Columbia Lake, just north of the university. The party starts at about 4pm and includes performers and activities for the kids (water slides, inflatable tents, balloon twisting clowns, that sort of fun), a beer garden for the adults, a food fair with local food vendors and food trucks – Smokes Poutinerie (I know I shouldn’t) is my personal favourite. There is music (Kim Mitchell, the Strumbellas) and of course the fireworks, which start sometime soon after 10pm. Bring a blanket.

Fireworks in Kitchener
A few of years ago, the City of Kitchener decided to get into the Canada day spirit and holds it’s own Canada Day party. Starting at 4pm, at Kitchener City Hall there is a beer garden, food vendors, and live music followed up with a fireworks finale from the top of Kitchener City Hall. It’s another fun time.
