Kitchener Waterloo Real Estate News

January 30 2019

Wednesday January 30 2019. In this week’s Kitchener Waterloo Real Estate News: penthouse, Waterloo Park, real estate vocabulary, RRSPs, home selling advice, Aeryon Labs, GoodLife, Bole International, website rankings, KW3…

On the right side of the tracks

The sudden wintery weather didn’t keep home shoppers away from my new penthouse listing at 3267 King Street East. The listing has enjoyed great comments from agent showings and from visitors to the Sunday open house. Although you never really know in this business when something is going to sell, you can often tell whether or not you are on the right track.

I’m on the right track.

Park improvements

The ongoing improvements to Waterloo Park will include dredging Silver Lake and removing the splash pad after this summer season — splash it up kids, this is your last summer! A few years ago Kitchner dredged and improved the lake and lakeside around Victoria Park. Here is a nice introduction to Victoria Park and neighbourhood.

RRSPs vs real estate

If you’re torn between investing in either RRSPs or real estate, don’t be. You should be investing in both. RRSPs offer diversified access to a number of different market options, but in tandem with real estate, investors are better shielded. If you put money in RRSPs and you take it out, you’re penalized, but in real estate the monthly payment has forced savings mechanisms.

The words we use in real estate

Real estate has a special vocabulary, two types actually. The first type is the legal and financial words most people only encounter when they buy and sell real estate. I want to talk about the second type — the words you see in real estate listings.

The most outdated home-selling advice you should ignore

There are few things more stressful than buying a home. That’s probably why nearly everyone who’s been through the home-buying process is happy to give you some advice. The problem is that when you’re talking about something as fluid as the housing market, the rules change quickly. As such, there’s a good chance that any advice you get is likely outdated.

Waterloo’s Aeryon Labs acquired by Flir Systems for $265M

Aeryon’s drones are used by 20 different militaries in over 30 countries worldwide, including the United States. Aeryon’s drones include sensors, which use FLIR thermal technology, to support high-resolution intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capability.

A feel good story about GoodLife fitness

How GoodLife Fitness went from a single club in London to 400 across Canada. GoodLife built its business thanks to its focus on reputation—and lots and lots of data.

Ethiopia has tripled the size of its main airport as it gets set to be Africa’s gateway hub

last Sunday, prime minister Abiy Ahmed inaugurated the newly-expanded terminal of the Bole International Airport, the main hub of Ethiopian Airlines in Addis Ababa. The project, which was funded and built by China for $363 million, triple the airport’s size and can now accommodate up to 22 million passengers annually from its current 7 million.

Ranking websites

I don’t know much about websites. I blog. I cull. I like to write. I know the basics when it comes to WordPress and it’s associated add ons. But that’s it.

So, if you know anyone who can give me a site audit and help me out with a spring clean up, please let me know. That’s an aside.

I was on free site audit site, just fooling around, seeing what I could discover about blogging efforts. I was surprised how well ranked this site is in such a short time. I’ve only been culling the news for a couple of years.
